When buying a home, there are sure-fire ways to cause hiccups at closing; on rare occasions, it has cost the client their purchase.

 

Here’s a fun way of remembering what not to do, until you hold the keys to your home in your hands.

 

The Ten Commandments of Buying a Home

1. Thou shalt not change jobs, become self-employed or quit your job before you put the key in your door

2. Thou shalt not buy a car, truck, van or anything with a payment before the possession date

3. Thou shalt not use credit cards excessively or allow the account/card to fall behind

4. Thou shalt not spend your down payment or closing cost funds on a new TV or appliance

5. Thou shalt not omit financial information from the application

6. Thou shalt not buy new furniture on credit

7. Thou shalt not take advantage of don’t pay a cent events – call me first

8. Thou shalt not make large deposits or move funds around before you receive the File Complete notification

9. Thou shalt not change bank accounts

10. Thou shalt not co-sign for a family member or friend before possession date
