Overwhelmed to Re-balanced: Lisa & Jeff’s Story

Meet Lisa and Jeff….

Jeff and Lisa are like many families I work with—hard-working, doing all the right things, and still finding themselves struggling to stay ahead.

Jeff runs a small contracting business, and Lisa was working two hourly jobs while raising their two young kids. They’d owned their home for nearly 20 years, but over time, the math stopped working.

With no taxes deducted at source, Jeff’s CRA bill grew year after year. Then the pandemic hit, prices rose, and credit cards became a lifeline. By the time we connected, they were juggling:

Their credit was bruised, and refinancing through traditional lenders was no longer an option.

The problem(s) we needed to solve

  • CRA debt from underpaid taxes
  • An expensive second mortgage
  • High consumer debt from everyday living
  • Lisa is working two jobs to keep up
  • An income structure that didn’t support predictable tax repayments

The solution

We placed them with a reputable alternative lender who looked at the whole picture. Thanks to substantial equity in their home, we set them up with a one-year mortgage—

Yes, the interest rate was higher. But it bought them something more important: time, clarity, and a path forward

What happened

  • Paid off all outstanding debts, including CRA
  • Free up enough income for Lisa to leave one of her jobs and spend more time at home with the kids.
  • Re-balanced their monthly cash flow to support family life. With only one payment to focus on, life became a lot easier.
  • Built an emergency fund to stay ahead of future hiccups

It was a much-needed reset, and it worked.

In a year, we’ll revisit everything with stronger credit and better options—likely moving them back to an A-side lender with lower rates.

We’re so happy to see Lisa and Jeff settled and finally breathing a little easier in the home they love. We will stay connected and ensure a smooth future.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

Life gets messy. But the right plan—and the right support—can change everything.
